Judicial Selection: Should Texas elect or appoint judges?

Over the last ten years, Texas has substantially reformed and improved its tort system. According to one recent study, this has resulted in Texas having the best tort climate in the nation. Many believe the next step in tort reform is to change the current system in which campaign activities and pressures can improperly influence the outcome of the judicial process. This primer will examine the current system of judicial selection and discuss options for improving it.
